There’s something so beautiful about finding out you’re expecting — that ultimate joy of knowing you’re about to bring a little one into the world. Kaylee and Jem wanted to share this milestone with their loved ones, so we planned a mini session to capture both their love and their big announcement.

The setting was a field in Leeds (Jem’s choice) — soft grass stretching out under the warm afternoon sun. The light kissed the landscape in gold, but the real magic was between them: the way Kaylee and Jem admired their ultrasound, the way they laughed together, the way they held each other with such tenderness.

Without any instruction from me, they arrived in outfits that perfectly complemented each other. Soft, neutral tones that matched the golden field. Textures that moved with the breeze. Nothing flashy, nothing forced, nothing branded. Their styling not only tied the images together but made the shoot feel natural, relaxed, and undeniably them.

That’s the power of thoughtful styling. It’s not about perfection. It’s about creating space for your personality and your love to shine.

So, you’ve booked the shoot. The date’s in the calendar. Now comes the question every couple asks: What do we wear? It’s a good one — because the right outfits don’t just look good, they help you feel at ease in front of the camera. And when you feel good, you glow. Here’s how to make sure your wardrobe choices elevate your shoot and feel like you.

1. Choose Comfort Over Trend — Always

You want to feel like yourself, not a version of yourself that’s constantly adjusting their shirt or tugging on a too-tight sleeve. Pick outfits that feel natural and flattering to your body and style. If you wouldn’t wear it to dinner or on a walk together, it probably doesn’t belong in your shoot either. Remember, confidence always photographs better than any designer label.

2. Go for Soft, Neutral, or Earthy Tones

Bright neons, busy patterns, and logos tend to steal the spotlight (and not in a good way). Soft neutrals, warm earth tones, or muted jewel tones always photograph beautifully — and let your connection take centre stage. Think oatmeal, olive, rust, navy, sage, off-white, terracotta, dusty pink, or soft blue.

3. Coordinate, Don’t Match

Your outfits should complement each other, not mirror each other. Work within the same colour family, or mix tones that feel like they belong together (warm with warm, cool with cool). Different textures (like linen, denim, cotton, or knit) add beautiful depth without overcomplicating the look.

4. Bring Movement Into the Frame

Flowy dresses, scarves, unbuttoned overshirts, or loose trousers catch the breeze and create gorgeous movement in photos. They soften the scene and make candid shots feel more alive — like you’re living in the moment, not just posing for one.

5. Think About the Location and Season

A beach calls for something relaxed and light. A forest or field works beautifully with earthy, nature-inspired tones. A city backdrop might allow for something a little bolder or more structured. Let the setting guide your choices — without overriding your personality.

When you book with me, before every shoot I will have a consultation with you where we can discuss location and how to style for the shoot. This is included in every package. I want you to be comfortable and feel your absolute best.
